Introduction

Sustainable Agriculture for Rural Development”. The aim of the course – to deepen and to expand students’ highly specialized knowledge in the field of sustainable agriculture and to develop students’ competencies required for solution of complex problems of rural development through agricultural multifunctionality.

Learning outcomes / competences
  • apply modern theories of economics and management for performing research in rural development;
  • diagnose scientific and applied problems of agriculture and rural development;
  • evaluate level of sustainability of agriculture and rural areas;
  • evaluate the process of rural development and the relevant policy changes;
  • make decisions related to the development of rural areas based on critical application of modern theories and recent scientific research results.
Objectives

To understand the nature and importance of sustainable agriculture
To understand ways in which different agricultural practices can alter the environment either positively or negatively
To analyze examples of farming practices that are economically viable, environmentally sound and socially responsible
To appreciate how enquiry learning can be used to promote an appreciation of sustainable agriculture in the school curriculum
